Which AI smart glasses should you buy? Four questions

If you would rather not answer: for most people the right pair is the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 Wayfarer with the clear lens, because it is the one you keep on indoors and it carries the doubled battery. If all you want is music and calls, camera-free audio glasses cost two thirds less. These four questions work out which of those two camps you are in.

How we chose the questions

The first question settles almost everything. If point-of-view capture is not something you will actually use, you are paying four hundred euros for a feature you will ignore, and the whole ranking reshuffles.

The second is about lenses, the line item people forget. A clear-lens frame stays on in the office; a photochromic one costs close to a hundred euros more at list but solves the in-and-out problem; a prescription is quoted separately by an optician and can double the bill.

Budget is treated as a hard constraint rather than a hint. Below two hundred euros the only thing on the market is audio glasses, with no camera and no on-board AI. Better to know that before you start comparing.

The last question carries less weight, but it matters if you live inside WhatsApp and Instagram, because native integration with those apps belongs to the Meta models alone. Star ratings and unshipped announced features count for nothing here.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really need to spend four hundred euros on smart glasses?

Only if you want the camera and an assistant built into the frame. For music, calls and voice commands, audio glasses starting around €179 do the job. Almost the entire price gap sits in that camera.

Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta?

Inside they are nearly identical: same camera, same assistant, same claimed runtime. The frame is the variable, and with it the setting. Oakley holds better during sport, Ray-Ban disappears in an office.

Can I use them with my prescription?

Yes, but it is never included. Ray-Ban sells a range built for correction and Oakley states compatibility across the HSTN line; either way the lenses are ordered and paid for at an optician. Get the quote before you settle on a frame.
