How we chose the questions
The quiz weighs four things. Room size, because a small unit in a living room runs flat out without reaching a comfortable level, while a big one in a nursery overshoots. Your water: with hard tap water an ultrasonic humidifier spreads white dust, as the EPA notes, while evaporative and warm mist models keep minerals in the wick or heating chamber. Your priority: quiet nights, app control with a sensor and schedules, or warm mist with no filters. And your budget, which we treat as a hard cap based on each model's price range. Our recommendations come from manufacturer specs, verified buyer reviews and lab results from specialist outlets such as RTINGS; we don't physically test products. Warm mist models are never suggested if you tell us there are small children at home, because of the burn risk.
