Which flat iron should you buy? Four questions

This tool scores the European models from our Italian and Spanish editions (230 V). If you shop on Amazon.com, the short answer from our US guide is the Remington Shine Therapy 1-inch for most people, the BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium for thick or coarse hair, the ghd Platinum+ for daily styling of color-treated hair and the dual-voltage CHI Original for travel. The questions below explain the logic behind each pick.

How we chose the questions

The questions start with hair type, because it sets the temperature: fine and bleached hair does best under 350°F, normal hair between 350 and 400°F, and thick or coarse hair needs more. So we reward irons that go low when you answer "fine" and irons that go above 446°F (230 °C) when you answer "thick". The second question is frequency: daily stylers benefit from sensors that keep heat steady and plates that glide without repeat passes. The third is what matters most to you: precise heat control, speed on long thick hair, care for color-treated hair, or the simplicity of an iron with nothing to set. Budget is a hard filter based on market price tiers, not daily prices. When scores tie, the guide's order wins, and it puts the most balanced iron first.

How the score works

Each answer gives 2 points to the product that is ideal for that profile, 1 to an acceptable one and 0 to one that does not cover it. Budget is eliminatory: anything above it is out. Ties go to the guide's order. Amazon links are affiliate links, but the result does not depend on the commission.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool replace the guide?

No. It condenses the guide's logic into four questions. For drawbacks, specs and the full comparison, read the flat iron guide.

Why does the ghd only show up with a high budget?

Because it sits in the premium tier: budget is a hard filter and rules it out when you choose to spend as little as possible.

Does the tool use today's prices?

No, it uses market price tiers. You'll find the current price only on Amazon.
